Angiography Treatment in Coimbatore
CAD (Coronary Artery Disease) is prevalent in India, particularly among the elderly. It is a widespread cardiovascular condition caused by atherosclerosis, which narrows and hardens the coronary arteries.
What Occurs During an Angiography?
Angiography is a procedure conducted at the top Hospital for Angiography in Coimbatore to examine blood vessels using X-rays. Prior to X-ray usage, a dye is introduced into the blood, enabling clear visualization of the blood vessels during angiography. By means of X-ray, the blood vessels are accentuated, enabling a cardiologist to identify any issues. The resultant X-ray images are referred to as angiograms.
Why is Angiography used?
Angiography is utilized to assess if arterial blood flow is hindered for any reason. Dr.Muthus Multispeciality Hospital offer angiography treatment and diagnostic procedures in Coimbatore to identify various conditions affecting patients’ blood vessels. These conditions encompass:
- Atherosclerosis: Narrowing of arteries that increases the risk of heart attack or stroke.
- Peripheral arterial disease: Reduced blood supply to leg muscles.
- Brain aneurysm: Formation of bulge in brain blood vessels.
- Angina: Sharp chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscles.
- Pulmonary embolism: Blockage in lung blood vessels due to blood clots.
- Renal artery blockage: Blood clot obstructing the supply of blood to the kidneys.
Angiography Risks
Angiography is generally a safe and painless procedure. However, it may result in soreness, bruising, or lump formation at the incision site due to blood accumulation. Allergic reactions to the dye are possible. In extremely rare cases, there may be health complications such as stroke or heart attack.
Risks of Relying on Angiography
Angiography is widely used for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) but has limitations. It provides a 2D X-ray image of a 3D structure, lacking information on coronary artery composition, plaque morphology, severity or location of calcium, and precise lumen size.
Coronary Angioplasty and its Applications
After diagnosis, patients with narrowed or blocked arteries receive a treatment plan. Angioplasty involves using a balloon to open a blocked artery. This procedure places a stent at the blockage site, expanding a narrowed or blocked artery and restoring blood flow.
Dr.Muthus Multispeciality Hospital, the best hospital for Angiography in Coimbatore, employs cutting-edge technology for coronary angioplasty. Our advanced, minimally invasive surgical procedures ensure comprehensive medical care, fDr.Muthus Hospital recovery, and minimal post-surgery complications.
Angioplasty is mainly used for elderly individuals with atherosclerosis. While medication can treat angina caused by physical activity or stress, angioplasty ensures continuous blood supply in severe cases when medications may lose effectiveness.

What are Angiography and Angioplasty?
Angiography procedure is carried out by the cardiologists. It is done in catheterization laboratory. The procedure is done through groin or wrist by inserting a catheter which is passed through the artery up to the heart. The catheter cannulates the arteries supplying blood and oxygen to heart (coronary artery). Radiographic contrast solution is injected through the catheter which then along with blood flows into the coronary artery. As the contrast flows down the artery, images are taken by fluoroscopy machine ( a form of x-ray). The image shows whether there is any obstruction (stenosis) in the coronary artery. Patient usually remains conscious and the procedure is done under local anaesthesia.
If there is significant stenosis (more than 70 to 80%) and it is suitable for angioplasty, then after discussing with the patient and relative angioplasty is performed. Angioplasty is a procedure in which the stenosed part of the artery is dilated by a balloon and subsequently a metallic stent is placed there. The stent keeps the stenosed part open.
Angiography and angioplasty although may appear very simple, are actually complex cardiac procedures and a lot of experience is required for a successful outcome. At Asian heart institute the doctors are experienced and competent enough to do these fine and complex procedures with effortless ease.
